Tips for Cooking with Fats & Oils
“Fat” has been designated as bad for our bodies. Since that time, our culture has turned to more refined sugars, carbs and processed foods – often hidden in foods labeled ‘low fat.’ But fat isn’t always the enemy.

“Fat” has been designated as bad for our bodies. Since that time, our culture has turned to more refined sugars, carbs and processed foods – often hidden in foods labeled ‘low fat.’ But fat isn’t always the enemy.

The right types and amounts of fat are actually great for you. Getting enough healthy fats into your diet has a number of amazing benefits for your body. Fats help with:

  • digestion
  • skin
  • hair growth
  • blood sugar stabilization
  • feeling full longer
  • weight loss
  • and more

Healthy fats such as organic olive oil, gheeMCT oil, fish oil, coconut oil, avocados, salmon, nuts & seeds, eggs and nut butters offer endless health benefits.

Our brains consist of over 60% fats. Omega-3 fatty acids (healthy fats found primarily in fatty fish) reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and appear to lower the risk of dementia – including Alzheimer’s disease. A diet which skimps on healthy saturated fats robs your brain of the raw materials it needs to function optimally.

As with anything, moderation is the key. Meals should always contain mostly non-starchy vegetables, with animal proteins and fats added as condiments. There are also times to get the advice of a professional before changing the number and/or types of fats in your diet. If you’re an athlete, a runner, seeking to lose weight, treating mental health or treating the effects of aging – your physician or health and nutrition coach should be apart of planning and implementing such dietary changes safely.

Some easy ways to get healthy fats into your diet are to use them on salads and when cooking! You can saute vegetables in olive oil or coconut oil. Baking with real butter and coconut oil is another easy addition. Add avocados, nuts, seeds and olive oil to salads. And a delicious way to get fats into your body is by making your daily coffee or tea into Bulletproof Coffee!
