Practical Experience

Sheri Danielson has worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Integrative Health Coach for over 20 years. Working primarily with chronic pain patients who were also experiencing mood or adjustment disorders, Sheri’s work focused on improving their quality of life through behavioral health strategies. “What I came to realize was that my patients/clients had so much power over their outcome, no matter the problem or disability, primarily through their daily lifestyle choices.”

Journey to Integrative Health

“I became absorbed with finding ways to help empower people to take control of their health and their happiness and to basically be the STAR of their treatment team!” In 2014, Sheri enrolled in the Integrative Health Coaching Program at Duke University. This was a game changer for Sheri as she met providers from all over the country, nurses, medical doctors, therapists, who were frustrated with our medical system, the declining health of our country, and were looking for new skills to help their clients regain their health. She recently received her certification as a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC). She is the only FMCHC in Tyler.

An Integrative Health Matters Health Coach is similar to a “personal trainer,” but an integrative Health Coach explores, guides and mentors a patient as a whole person – not dealing with the physical only. A Health Coach encourages you and holds you accountable as you work to achieve your own best health vision – identifying obstacles, developing strategies for success and providing additional resources and support.

Health and wellness coaches work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Coaches support clients in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources, and in developing self-management strategies for making sustainable, healthy lifestyle, behavior changes. While health and wellness coaches per se do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide psychological therapeutic interventions, they may provide expert guidance in areas in which they hold active, nationally recognized credentials, and may offer resources from nationally recognized authorities. As partners and facilitators, health and wellness coaches support their clients in achieving health goals and behavioral change based on their clients’ own goals and consistent with treatment plans as prescribed by individual clients’ professional health care providers. Coaches assist clients to use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goal setting, action steps and accountability toward healthy lifestyle change.*
