On April 27th, 2018, Dr. Peter Langsjoen, a Cardiovascular Disease Specialist in Tyler, Texas, visited us at Integrative Health Matters to discuss heart health.
Basically, the heart pumps blood out and delivers it to the body as it divides into main arteries leading to the brain, legs and arms. Over the years, those arteries develop a buildup of “plaque.” Plaque cannot be avoided entirely as we age, but we can prevent it from hardening and causing life threatening blockages.
When your diet includes adequate amounts of omega 3, vitamin C, CoQ10, and vitamin D3, your artery integrity and immune system will respond positively. Diets deficient in these nutrients can lead to suppressed immune systems, and when your immune system is suppressed, you are at risk for cardiovascular complications such as:
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- heart attack
- heart disease
However, your diet isn’t the only contributor to heart health issues. Many prescription drugs, namely statins, are also highly dangerous for your arteries.
