Each Tuesday from 12:15 pm-1:15 pm, we have a Mindful Movement and Meditation class here at Integrative Health Matters with Ellie. In this class, we use variations of gentle, mindful movement which are intended as “meditation in motion.” This restorative yoga is designed as a gentle, non-strenuous class with few postures and it focuses mainly on relaxing and breathing.
Stress plagues every one of us, so it’s vitally important to our mental and physical health that we take time out of our hectic lives and do something for ourselves. High levels of stress can be dangerous to your overall health, and although stress cannot be completely avoided, taking an hour out of your day to reset and focus on yourself can really help.
In this restorative yoga class, we hold postures in stillness and focus on breathing and relaxing into them. This stillness halts your body’s stress response and resets your adrenal glands.
Many, if not all, of the poses we do are easy to use for at-home relaxation and even as relief from insomnia. Flexibility isn’t necessary as all of these poses are gentle and adaptable to your body’s current level of fitness. We encourage each participant to stretch to your body’s ability and do what you can with the body you have at the moment.
If you come to simply lie on the mat in silent relaxation and meditation, that is still beneficial to you and your health – restorative yoga and meditation naturally work together. In fact, in addition to our Mindful Movements classes on Tuesdays, we offer Wednesday evening “Just Breathe” Meditation classes from 5:15 pm-6:15 pm with Judy. Those classes are designed to help you rest your mind and practice being present in your body.
