IV Nutrient Therapy
At Integrative Health Matters, we offer high-dose intravenous (IV) nutrients to support your healing. With the IV infusion of nutrients, you can achieve doses higher than what you would get with oral or injected nutrients. These high levels can be helpful in healing from a variety of conditions.
During IV therapy at IHM, you will be seated in a quite, comfortable area and the IV is delivered with attention to your comfort. You may combine IV therapies with planned blood draws, so that when you have your blood drawn, you can immediately have an IV infusion to avoid another stick. Intravenous nutrients can be used on varying schedules and for short-term treatment or ongoing maintenance.
At Integrative Health Matters, our practitioners will carefully evaluate you for suitability of intravenous nutrients and support you in choosing a regimen to determine whether intravenous nutrients are right for you. IV nutrients may be used as a stand-alone therapy or as part of your overall healing program. Discounts are available for our members.
Intravenous Vitamin C (IV C)
Vitamin C supports recovery from chronic illness and immune dysfunction.
A potent antioxidant, vitamin C supports recovery and healing from many forms of illness. It is known to support immune function and to improve issues related to vitamin C deficiency, which is common in ill patients, such as those in the ICU or those with cancer. (Liugan and Carr, “Vitamin C and Neutrophil Function: Findings from Randomized Controlled Trials,” Nutrients. 2019 Sep; 11(9): 2102.) [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6770220/]
Intravenous vitamin C (IV C) has been demonstrated to be safe and effective for a variety of conditions. With intravenous IV C, blood levels can be achieved that are 140 times higher than those you can achieve by taking vitamin C by mouth. (Padayatty et al, “Vitamin C Pharmacokinetics: Implications for Oral and Intravenous Use,” Ann Intern Med. 2004 Apr 6;140(7):533-7.) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15068981/]
Research shows that IV C can decrease inflammation and improve symptoms related to antioxidant deficiency, disease processes, and side effects of standard cancer chemotherapy. Cancer patients often experience vitamin C deficiency due to reduced food intake, inflammation, infection, other disease processes, and treatments such as radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. (Klimant et al, “Intravenous vitamin C in the supportive care of cancer patients: a review and rational approach,” Curr Oncol 2018 Apr; 25(2): 139-148. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5927785/] At Integrative Health Matters, we are happy to work with your oncologist to offer this adjunct care to your cancer treatment regimen.
Vitamin C has been demonstrated to have antiviral effects, especially at levels achievable with IV but not oral therapy. For example, IV C has been shown to lower concentrations of Epstein Barr antibody levels in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. (Mikirova and Hunninghake, “Effect of High Dose Vitamin C on Epstein-Barr Viral Infection,” Med Sci Monit. 2014 May 3;20:725-32) [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4015650/] and to improve symptoms from shingles (Schencking et al, “Intravenous Vitamin C in the Treatment of Shingles: Results of a Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study,” Med Sci Monit. 2012 Apr; 18(4):CR215-24.) [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3560828/]
A Myers’ cocktail is an intravenous (IV) infusion containing magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin C, and glutathione.
Much has been written about Myers’ cocktails by experienced physicians. (Gaby, “Intravenous Nutrient Therapy: the “Myers’ Cocktail,” Altern Med Rev 2002; 7(5):389-403) [http://archive.foundationalmedicinereview.com/publications/7/5/389.pdf] Dr. Myers was a physician in Baltimore who pioneered the use of intravenous nutrients for various medical problems. Many of his patients managed chronic issues with injections ranging on a frequency from twice a week to once a month. When he died, many of his patients, some of whom had been getting regular injections for 25 years or more, sought out care from Dr. Gaby, and the benefits of IV nutrients became more widely known.
Over 11 years, Dr. Gaby administered over 15,000 injections to approximately 1,000 patients. Many of his patients reported improvement in asthma attacks, acute migraines, fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, and seasonal allergic rhinitis. A small number of patients with congestive heart failure, angina, chronic urticaria, hyperthyroidism, dysmenorrhea, or other conditions were also treated with the Myers’ and most showed marked improvement. Many relatively healthy patients chose to receive periodic injections because it enhanced their overall well-being for periods of a week to several months.
